Determining the right harvest time – When are your flowers really ripe?
The correct harvest time determines the potency, aroma, and quality of the harvest.
Harvesting too early results in a lack of active ingredients, while harvesting too late leads to a loss of terpenes and freshness.
The most important indicators
-
Trichomes (resin glands): The most reliable marker. Check with a 30–60x magnifying glass or a small microscope.
- Clear = too early
- Milky-white = peak active ingredient production
- Amber = more relaxing effect
(THC partially converts to CBN)
Optimal: Approx. 70% milky-white and 20–30% amber.
-
Pistils (flower hairs): 70–90% turned brown or orange and retracted – a good additional sign.
-
Further indications: Thickened, resinous flowers, decreasing new growth, and intense scent.
Practical tips for harvesting
- Harvest in the morning when the weather is dry – essential oils are particularly concentrated then.
- Don't just check the top buds, but also the middle flower clusters.
- For hybrids or autoflowers, consider the genetics – some varieties mature more uniformly.
At Cannaphilie, we select genetics that show a clear and reliable ripening phase. This makes it easier for you to hit the perfect timing and unleash the full potential of your cuttings.
Take your time to observe – a well-timed harvest will reward you with quality and aroma.
Share enjoyment. Live responsibly.
