The first 14 days: How to optimally root your cannabis cuttings

The first two weeks after receiving your cuttings often determine the entire success of cultivation. During this sensitive phase, the roots develop – the foundation for vital, robust plants.

At Cannaphilie, we only supply vital cuttings with strong genetics. With the right conditions, you can achieve a high success rate.

Optimal conditions for rooting

  • Humidity: Ideally 70–90% during the first 7–10 days. Use a humidity dome, a mini-greenhouse, or a clear cover. From day 10–14, slowly reduce to 60–70%.
  • Temperature: Consistent 20–25 °C at the root zone. Avoid temperatures above 26 °C or below 18 °C.
  • Light: Gentle, not too intense light (e.g., LED or fluorescent). 18 hours of light per day are sufficient. Too much light stresses the young cuttings.
  • Watering: Regularly spray the leaves with low-calcium water. Keep the substrate only slightly moist – absolutely avoid waterlogging.
  • Rooting aid: A high-quality rooting gel or powder (e.g., with IBA) can support the process.

Practical timeline for the first 14 days

  • Days 1–7: Maintain high humidity, spray leaves, look for the first fine roots.
  • Days 7–10: If white roots appear, check carefully (slight resistance when pulled). Slowly reduce humidity.
  • Days 10–14: When roots are strong (approx. 3–5 cm), repot into a larger substrate. First very light nutrient application is possible.

Tip from Cannaphilie: Clean work is crucial – disinfect tools and avoid touching the cut surfaces. Strong genetics from Cannaphilie tolerate small fluctuations better.

With patience and the right conditions, most cuttings root reliably within 7–14 days. Start with vital cuttings from our range and lay the foundation for successful, natural cultivation.
